Hermosa Beach’s Pennywise has been one of the most influential American modern punkrock bands. With Fletcher's powerful playing style and guitar sound, McMackin’s machine gun drumming, the pounding bass sound of Jason (RIP) and Randy, and off course the distinctive voice and lyrics of Jim, it seems they layed out a blueprint for any band that started playing melodic hardcore or skatepunk in the nineties and nillies. All those aspects gelled to a seemingly invincible force on their 1993 and 1995 records ‘Unknown Road’ and ‘About Time’, flawless pieces of skatepunk, without a doubt. They caught the right melodies, the right words, the right themes, the right amount of anger and hope to become timeless. That’s why Pennywise doesn’t get tired of playing the tunes of their records, even after more than twenty years. They did a great back-to-back showcase at The Palladium in Hollywood in March 2016, where they played three nights in a row, playing their first three albums, one each night. For their Groezrock 2017 performance, the band's 3rd already, they’ll perform the complete ‘About Time’-album and throw in their other classics and hits. Start Bro Hymning, everyone, Gestel City is burning tonight!
