Dustin Kensrue confirmed his acoustic performance

Dustin Kensrue (born November 18, 1980) is the vocalist, lyricist, and rhythm guitarist in the Orange County post-hardcore quartet Thrice. Dustin also has a solo acoustic side project under his own name. He had toured in past years on his own under the moniker “Ursus Veritas,” but decided to drop the name in favor of simplicity since “people have enough trouble just pronouncing last name to begin with. ” The name was a play-on-words of its Latin components: Ursus meaning bear, and Veritas meaning truth. Kensrue has been quoted as saying there is no real special significance to the name, other than he likes bears, and thought it sounded cool. Kensrue is more likely to snare listeners more in tune with the work of Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and Ryan Adams. Combining classic folk with earthy blues, melodic country and deep soul, Kensrue creates a unique aural landscape complementing his music versatility....

We're extremely happy to announce Mikey Erg as solo artist on GROEZROCK. Mikey Erg, known as a member from The Ergs, Star Fucking Hipsters, The Dopamines and nowadays on the road with Off With Their Heads, has an awesome cool punkrock voice. This drummer, guitarist, singer (and in a mixture of these jobs) has released solo work on Paper+Plastick. His 12" 'Songs From The Heart' was released in a form of a heart, a real collector's item! Mikey's music is sincere, pure and sometimes even fun! Get to know him (better) on our Fender acoustic stage. (Saturday, 12u00) Later more news on the second addition...

"Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, we are not going to be able to come over to the UK and Europe in two weeks as we'd planned. To say that we're disappointed is an understatement, since we've been stoked on playing shows with The Wonder Years and doing the Hit The Deck, Groezrock and Monsterbash fests for months now. We will, however, absolutely be back over there this summer, and can't wait to come back and play music for all of you. Our deepest apologies about the current turn of events once again, and much love to all of you over in Europe and the UK." HOSTAGE CALM WILL TAKE THEIR SET AT THE ETNIES STAGE. GOOD RIDDANCE ARE BACK!

In May 2007 Good Riddance played their final show, fittingly in their hometown of Santa Cruz. The members then went their separate ways to raise families and pursue careers. Though there have been numerous offers to reform and play in the five years since, the band has turned them all down. In 2012 the members of Good Riddance decided to get together and play a few shows again. The reason was simple: they missed the songs. The group has no immediate plans for any further releases at this point but is looking forward to reuniting on stage and celebrating the memorable material they have longed to play and which their loyal fans have been waiting to hear once again. "We look forward to reconnecting with so many of you who made our journey possible as well as perhaps introducing ourselves to an entirely new audience of people who may have heard our records but never saw us play. Good Riddance has always been more than a band. We will also be focusing heavily on promoting and advocating for groups and organizations we support which we believe are key in creating a more just and caring world. "I never thought I would have to write another letter like this. In March of 2006, I wrote a letter telling you all I have MS. Now I am writing to tell you that I have a problem with my heart that needed to be fixed. On Feb 2nd, I had open-heart surgery to repair a leaky aortic valve. It’s going to take a couple months before I start feeling normal again. In the meantime Jonny, Ben and Ian will be putting the finishing touches on our new record. I finished all of my drums in December so I’m going to take the next few months to get better. Unfortunately we are going to have to pull out of playing Groezrock in Belgium in April. We were really looking forward to this as it was the perfect show to start touring this record. So many of our friends will be there and to share the stage with Refused was a dream come true. To all our fans in Belgium, we promise we will make this up to you. For now, please look forward to a new single soon and new album in July. The surgery went perfect but healing takes a while. No other shows will be affected and I look forward to seeing you all in the summer." Macbeth is psyched to announce that almost 500 bands entered the Groezrock 2012 competition! On February 21st we will announce the 20 remaining bands that have been selected by a professional jury. These 20 bands enter into a popular vote competition in which they will have to get as many people as possible to vote for them. The more votes, the more chance you have of playing the Macbeth stage! On March 10th Macbeth will announce the 10 bands with the most votes and thus qualify for a spot on the Macbeth stage at Groezrock 2012. In the meantime we would like to share a little secret… Macbeth have invited 2 special guests. We Are The Ocean & The Swellers Besides that, the first wildcard went to Exile Parade (UK), “Britpop with a punkrock attitude!”. Statement from the band: "I'm sorry to inform that BIGWIG will not be able to tour during April due to an injury that needs unexpected additional surgery, attention and healing. We thank everyone involved and are very grateful for this invitation to share a stage with such amazing bands and friends. Except for all the good news there's also a bit negative news and very good news. Joey Cape can't do a solo/acoustic set at GROEZROCK. Because Lagwagon is playing Extreme Playgrounds in Duisburg the logistics didn't work out and it's not doable time wise to add a solo show. But Lagwagon is still playing GROEZROCK. In the first riddle some saw connections with Frenzal Rhomb. That's true. But due to Gordy's (drummer) wife being so close to giving birth it's very difficult to leave home. We totally understand this and wish both all the luck in the world with this beautiful experience. Congratulations. We might see them in 2013....

If nothing has broken us up by now, I doubt anything ever could. However, we will be taking a break from being a full-time band, and the upcoming tour in the Spring will be the last one for the foreseeable future. Playing music for the past 13 years with Riley, Ed, and Teppei has been such a gift. We have been able to see the world, share music with thousands and thousands of people, and make records with a variety of talented and inspiring people. The four of us have been through many highs and lows and overcome them together. I value their friendship, and it has been a great priviledge to play alongside them for so long. They are truly an amazingly gifted group of people, and the ways we’ve grown together as people and musicians has been a joy to experience. Along the way we have adapted to many changing situations, especially the growing families of both Teppei and myself, but it has been harder and harder for me with each step. I have three little girls now under the age of 5, and it is a huge strain on my family and I when I’m away for several weeks at a time. The way we’ve been doing things for a while is simply not sustainable for me anymore. I don’t know what the future looks like for Thrice, or for any of us individually. I do know that I would love to make more music in the future with them, as well as play some shows or short tours, but for the time being, I need to step out of the role of full time touring/recording musician, and will do so after this tour. I will continue to make music in various capacities I’m sure, and continue in my work as a Worship Director at Mars Hill Church in Orange County. I know this will be very disappointing news to many people, and for that I am truly sorry. The amount of support and love we’ve been given in our career is staggering and overwhelming. I know I’m biased, but I think we have the best fans in the world. This upcoming tour should be a lot of fun. We are planning for it to be somewhat of a celebration of the last 13 years and I’m sure we’ll be breaking out a bunch of songs that have been buried in the archives. I hope to see you out there to celebrate with us. I never expected to be able to do any of this, let alone do it for 13 years, with such amazing bandmates, such gifted and hard working crew and management, and such incredible and loyal fans. We had a band once, in Umeå. We would pile in a van, like every other punkband, and thunder off in pursuit of friends and glory in some basement in front of 20 people, 50 people, in towns 4-5 hours away. Sometimes there would be more than a hundred people and we would later in the week refer to that as a “big show“. We were ambitious, but we didn’t think of it as a career. We never made any fiscal sense whatsoever during 7 years of touring. Like most punkbands, it never occured to us to even try. We had a scene, we had some politics and we had just a hint of artistic ambition. True to our swedish roots we got very serious very fast. And then suddenly we got good. It’s a delicate path to tread for precocious twentysomethings anywhere on the planet, but this particular bunch didn’t make it. And that was fine. Most enterprises in life are unrelated to incredibly violent rock music. It’s been a motley 14 years since our band came apart. We’ve all kept busy in our respective endeavors but we’ve all remained friends and kept in touch. There have been offers, and lots of jokes about these offers. We’ve sort of looked down from our high horses and made fun of people who’ve just wanted to share the psychopathic intensity that we would deliver on a nightly basis in our post-pubescent prime. A reunion has just seemed irrelevant to us. Too much other shit to do. But then Kristofer got his degree from the Swedish opera academy, Jons medical studies began drawing to a close and Dennis and David started a new hardcore band together. Finally, after a decade and a half hiatus, Kristofer picked up the guitar again. Which made David want to play the drums again. Which in turn led to all four of us suddenly making new music in assorted constellations. As all this was brewing, Coachella & Groezrock got in touch. There were a couple of phone-calls, lots of skepticism, some hesitant enthusiasm before one of us basically said: “–This is ridiculous. There are friends of ours who would murder close relatives just to go see bands there. Let’s just do it, one last time.” And with that, socialist fag-loving pc scumbags were on the road again. We never did “The shape of punk to come” justice back when it came out, too tangled up in petty internal bickering to really focus on the job. And suddenly there’s this possibility to do it like it was intended. We wanna do it over, do it right. For the people who’ve kept the music alive through the years, but also for our own sakes. After 2.5 months of waiting we are finally ready to announce our first names. And not the least names either...here we go: We are very proud to have RANCID in Meerhout again after 16 years (Rancid played at Apollo Rock in 1996). In occasion of their 20th anniversary RANCID will make their first European stop at GROEZROCK. Later on this year they will go on a full European tour. You can be sure to hear all their classics in their 80-minute during set. Simple Plan: Pop Punk from Canada who played fantastic live shows the past year at Pinkpop, Rock Am Ring/Rock Im Park,... They also played at the Vans Warped Tour and in a (nearly) sold out Vooruit (Ghent). The best Californian punkrock band, on the Fat Wreck Chords label, can only be Lagwagon. Joey Cape and his friends are very welcome guests at GROEZROCK. They always know how to transform the gig into a huge punkrock party. GROEZROCK did it again, the 20th anniversary edition was more than perfect. We had the best and finest selection a punk/hardcore festival can get. The perfect combination from older well known bands with the latest hypes and hottest bands around. It was one big party in front of all the Groezrock stages. 65 bands played at the festival. We received more than 34.000 visitors over 2 full festival days of 38 different nationalities. Mainly Dutch, German, British, Irish, French, Spanish and Swiss music lovers. A few Canadians, people from Australia, the USA and South Africa were representing. Thanks for still visiting our event. Being here that numerous and with that friendly enthusiasm and attitude still means a lot for us and give us the reason and strength for doing this besides our full time day jobs. “Vardøger” – Tarmac

“Vardøger” is an interactive installation created by the art collective Tarmac based in Meerhout (B). Passing festival visitors will be voluntarily requested to enter an alienating post-disaster setting in order to create a fragmentary “Doppelgänger” of themselves. Scanological mitosis as a living art form: one copy will be handed over to the abashed donor, the other one is used by the collective to create a huge organic billboard collage which creates the basis for a wayward interpretation of the irrefutable evidence: 20 years of Groezrock. Vardøger is the result of the spontaneous collaboration between Groezrock and Tarmac, a collective of affiliated artists based in Meerhout (B) which operates as a “Cultural Transfusion Center” since 2009 and assists in facilitating and creating of contemporary arts. Blacklist Royals have played hundreds of shows over the last three years including the 2010 Harvest Of Hope Festival, South By Southwest, the entire 2006, the 2007, and the 2009 Vans Warped Tour, appearances at The Fest 6,7 & 8. Blacklist Royals are one of the hardest working bands you will ever find. Ready for a European roadtrip playing their fucking hearts out. Expect a fine mixture between Social Distortion and The Gaslight Anthem. For those who don't know, Street Dogs is a punk rock band hailing from Boston, Massachusetts. The lead singer is Mike McColgan, former lead singer of Dropkick Murphys. In 1998 McColgan left Dropkick Murphys, after releasing their first full-length record 'Do or Die', to pursue a life-long dream of becoming a firefighter for the Boston Fire Department. Street Dogs formed in 2002 after McColgan decided he could no longer stay away from music. The band released their fifth album 'Street Dogs' on August 31, 2010 on Hellcat Records. The Keep A Breast Foundation (KAB) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Their mission is to help eradicate breast cancer by informing young people about methods of prevention, early detection and support. Through art events, educational programs and fundraising efforts they seek to increase breast cancer awareness among young people so they are better equipped to make choices and develop habits that will benefit their long-term health and well-being. They are a fast, aggressive and brutal Death Metal/Metalcore band from Hamilton, Scotland. They have constantly toured for a few years and worked hard to get where they are and thoroughly deserve it! Formed in 2005 the band played there first gig on August 26th. They so impressed the promoter that they where offered the support for I Killed The Prom Queen the following month. Bleed From Within geared their mind toward a sound that could be recognized as individual in a music scene that was seeing so much of the same material.

You were all impatient, now here it is, our calendar for 2011. It's a tough winter and the occasions to stay warm at home and bringing to perfection your technique and personage are various. That's why we invite you to take a look at the column "Championship 2011" and find out in which cities the next preselections will be held. GROEZROCK will bring glory to "Airguitar". We officially belong to the circuit and the least we can say is that there will be lots of surprises. As you can see, the big final will again take place at the Dour festival. We'll get back to you when the time is right! Senses Fail decided last weekend to cancel their April run due to personal reasons, no official statement from the band yet. Chelsea Grin will no longer be able to come to the UK for the Reckless and Relentless tour with AA, OM&M/PTV, no GROEZROCK either. Statement from the band "Some stuff come up that was beyond our control, so our next planned dates in Europe are being rescheduled for this winter." Old news but some people keep asking what happened with Kvelertak. They decided to play exclusive at GMM. We're working on replacements. Once the final 3 bands are confirmed we go public with time shedule as well. Keep checking our website for updates ! ...
